The Philippines concluded its participation in the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, achieving its highest ranking in nearly three decades by finishing 17th overall in the continental sporting event.
Filipino players have demonstrated their exceptional playing skills, making them stand out from the rest. the Filipino basketball team claimed their first-ever gold medal, which was considered an incredible achievement by President Marcos. He expressed his pride and congratulated Gilas Pilipinas, stating that every Filipino should feel proud of their national team's victory.
And who can forget A Filipino Olympic boxer named Eumir Marcial was among those who brought honor to the Philippines. In the semi-finals of the men's 80kg division, he managed to defeat Ahmad Ghousoon of Syria by knocking him out. Marcial will be facing a strong Chinese opponent in the finals of the second round. Moreover, he has already secured a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The participation of Filipino athletes in the tournament has ended after Junna Tsukii failed to secure a medal, leaving the Philippines' medal count at four gold, two silver, and 12 bronze. The closing ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday night. Tolentino stated that despite the loss of two medals in women's golf, the Philippines achieved an Asian Games record from Obiena and two from jiujitsu, resulting in four gold medals. He also emphasized that the 17th overall placing is an accomplishment that should be celebrated rather than the number of medals.
Even though the Philippines fell three bronze medals short of matching the medal count from the previous year, the basketball gold added to the energetic atmosphere of the event.
